April 1, 2013

EPA continues to develop final rule language and guidance documents on two sets of rules that pertain to geologic sequestration of carbon dioxide. The first area of regulation is the amendment to the Underground Injection Control (UIC) program to include a new Class VI well for geological sequestration of CO₂. The second area is the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reporting program.

Regarding the UIC Class VI program, EPA posted two draft and one final guidance documents.

Regarding GHG Reporting, EPA has published Subparts RR and UU pertaining to the injection of carbon dioxide for geologic sequestration and for other purposes. A full list of the Rule and all its subparts is found indexed on EPA’s Greenhouse Reporting Program website.
