MRCSP has Received the Final Permit from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) to Begin Injection of Carbon Dioxide

September 5, 2008

The Midwest Regional Carbon Sequestration Project (MRCSP) has received the final permit from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) to begin injection of carbon dioxide at the field test site at FirstEnergy's R.E. Burger Plant. The MRCSP plans to inject up to 3,000 tons of carbon dioxide beginning in mid-September. The period of injection could vary from three to eight weeks, depending on the properties of the injection zones and the time needed for experimental set-up, regulatory oversight and monitoring. Neighbors may see increased activity at the site before and during the injection period as workers put in place the carbon dioxide storage equipment, connections to the injection well, and monitoring equipment to be used for regulatory reporting and research. Please visit the MRCSP Web site in the near future to see new project snapshots of expected site activities.
